Product Specific Information

MA5-15244 targets p53 in FACS, IHC (P), IP, and WB applications and shows reactivity with human samples.
The immunogen is mouse p53 protein corresponding to amino acids 14–289.

Target Information

The tumor suppressor protein p53 is a sequence-specific transcription factor activated by cellular stress. It mediates cell cycle arrest or apoptosis in response to DNA damage or nutrient deprivation.
p53 activates transcription of genes such as p21waf1, leading to G1 or G2/M arrest. Structurally, p53 includes:

  • N-terminal transactivation domain
  • Central DNA-binding domain
  • Oligomerization domain
  • C-terminal regulatory domain

Phosphorylation at Ser15 is crucial for activation and stabilization, while Ser392 phosphorylation is associated with tumor formation.
p53 plays a key role in preventing proliferation of damaged cells, acting as an anticancer agent. Mutations in TP53 lead to loss of tumor suppressor function and are common in human cancers. Germline mutations can cause cancer-prone conditions such as Li-Fraumeni syndrome.
