Target Information

This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are RNA-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). They are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
While all hnRNPs are present in the nucleus, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm.
The protein encoded by this gene is located in the nucleoplasm and contains three KH domains that bind RNAs. It uniquely binds poly(C) sequences and may play a role in cell cycle progression.
Several alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene, though not all are fully characterized.
