Interleukin-4 (IL-4)는 활성화된 T 세포에서 생성되는 면역 조절성 사이토카인으로, interleukin 4 receptor의 리간드 역할을 합니다. IL-4는 가장 광범위한 작용을 가지며, IL13과의 수용체 결합으로 인해 두 사이토카인의 기능이 중첩될 수 있습니다. STAT6는 IL-4 신호 전달에 중요한 역할을 하는 전사 인자로 알려져 있습니다. IL-4 유전자는 IL-3, IL-5, IL-13, CSF2와 함께 염색체 5q에 위치한 사이토카인 유전자 클러스터를 형성하며, IL13과 인접해 있습니다. 또한 IL4, IL13, IL5 유전자는 염색체 상 약 120 kb 범위의 장거리 조절 요소에 의해 조정됩니다. IL-4 delta 2는 알려진 스플라이스 변이체입니다.
