Target Information
MPP8 is a heterochromatin component that specifically recognizes and binds methylated Lys-9 of histone H3 (H3K9me), promoting recruitment of proteins mediating epigenetic repression (PubMed:20871592, 26022416).
It mediates HUSH complex recruitment to H3K9me3 sites, maintaining transcriptional silencing by promoting SETDB1 and MORC2 recruitment (PubMed:26022416, 28581500).
MPP8 also recruits DNMT3A to CpG sites to promote DNA methylation and down-regulates CDH1 expression (PubMed:20871592).
Additionally, it represses L1 retrotransposons and silences unintegrated retroviral DNA via ZNF638 recruitment (PubMed:29211708, 30487602).
