Product Specific Information

MA1-43031 detects Protein C in mouse samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot and ELISA applications.
This antibody was derived from mouse protein C.

Target Information

Protein C is a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein that is cleaved to its activated form by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex. In its activated form, Protein C contains a serine protease domain and functions in the degradation of activated coagulation factors V and VIII.

Protein C is produced in the liver and consists of two polypeptide chains. The 62 kDa proenzyme is activated by thrombin bound to an endothelial receptor, and the active 55 kDa enzyme cleaves factors Va and VIIIa, inhibiting blood coagulation. Normal human plasma concentrations are approximately 1–3 ng/mL for the active enzyme and about 3 µg/mL for the proenzyme due to rapid turnover.

Mutations in the Protein C gene are associated with thrombophilia due to protein C deficiency, neonatal purpura fulminans, and recurrent venous thrombosis.
