Product Specific Information

The M17/4 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse CD11a, the 180 kDa integrin alpha L, also known as lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) alpha chain. LFA-1, formed by non-covalent association of CD11a with CD18 (integrin beta 2), acts as an adhesion molecule involved in lymphocyte and granulocyte function. CD11a is expressed by all leukocytes.

Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis
Applications Tested: Tested on mouse bone marrow cells at ≤0.5 µg/test. Optimize antibody titration for best performance.

Staining and Fixation:
When using multiple Super Bright-conjugated antibodies, use Super Bright Complete Staining Buffer (Product # SB-4401) to minimize non-specific interactions.
Samples can be stored in IC Fixation Buffer (Product # 00-8222) or 1-step Fix/Lyse Solution (Product # 00-5333) for up to 3 days at 4°C in the dark.

Target Information

CD11a (LFA-1 alpha, ITGAL) and CD18 form the leukocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) complex, an αLβ2 integrin. CD11a mediates leukocyte adhesion via ICAM-1, -2, and -3 ligands and contributes to lymphocyte costimulatory signaling. It plays a key role in immune cell interactions, tissue-specific localization, differentiation, and T-cell effector functions.
Blocking CD11a function is a therapeutic strategy for inflammatory diseases. The humanized anti-CD11a antibody Efalizumab (Raptiva) and simvastatin are known to modulate CD11a activity. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
Diseases associated with CD11a dysfunction include benign cephalic histiocytosis and leukocyte adhesion deficiency.
