Target Information
The ion channels activated by glutamate are divided into two classes:
- NMDA receptors (NMDAR) sensitive to N-methyl-D-aspartate
- AMPA receptors (AMPAR) activated by alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxalone propionic acid
AMPARs consist of four Glutamate Receptor Subunits (GluR1–4) and are essential for excitatory neurotransmission in the brain. The GluR2 subunit plays a key role in synaptic plasticity such as long-term depression (LTD).
