Product Specific Information
PA1-081 detects pseudorabies virus (PRV).
It has been successfully used in Western blot and immunohistochemistry procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects proteins in the range of 80–115 kDa representing various PRV proteins.
Immunohistochemical staining of PRV in rat hypothalamus from animals injected with PRV into the vitreous body of the eye results in intense staining of neurons in the superchiasmatic nucleus.
The PA1-081 immunogen is purified PRV-Bartha.
Target Information
Herpes simplex virus (HSV), varicella-zoster virus (VZV), and pseudorabies virus (PRV) comprise a family of neurotropic viruses known as alphaherpesviruses.
PRV is primarily a disease of swine, which serve as a reservoir for the virus and the principal source of natural infection for a diverse range of secondary hosts, including cattle, sheep, goats, dogs, cats, and many feral species.
Humans and apes are refractory to PRV infection.
PRV infects the epithelium of the host, then spreads to axons of the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
The virus utilizes the neuronal retrograde transport pathway, facilitating transfer to the brain.
This property allows PRV to be used as a research tool to study neural connectivity and trace neuronal circuitry in the peripheral (PNS) and central nervous system (CNS).
