Target Information
CDK9 is a serine/threonine kinase that forms an active holoenzyme complex with CyclinT1, playing a key role in regulating the eukaryotic cell cycle. It regulates cytokine-inducible transcription networks and facilitates promoter recognition of transcription factors. CDK9 promotes RNA synthesis in cell growth, differentiation, and viral pathogenesis. The CDK9/cyclin-K complex also phosphorylates the CTD of RNAPII and can substitute for CDK9/cyclin-T P-TEFb in vitro. Chronic activation of CDK9 can lead to cardiac hypertrophy and predisposition to heart failure.
