Target Information

Isotype control antibodies are used to distinguish non-specific background signal from specific antibody signal. Background staining can result from Fc receptor binding, non-specific interactions, or cell autofluorescence.
These controls are particularly useful in flow cytometry, but also applicable in ChIP, immunohistochemistry, and gel shift assays.
For best results, the isotype control should match the species and isotype of the primary antibody, and if directly labeled antibodies are used, the control should have the same conjugate.
