Target Information
Isotype control antibodies are used as negative controls to distinguish non-specific background signal from specific antibody signal. They have no relevant specificity to a target antigen and help identify background staining caused by Fc receptor binding, non-specific interactions, or autofluorescence.
While commonly used in flow cytometry, they are also useful in chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), immunohistochemistry, and gel shift assays.
For best results, the isotype control should match the species and isotype of the primary antibody and, if directly labeled, use the same conjugate.
