Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD2, a 50 kDa glycoprotein present on the human peripheral blood T lymphocytes and NK cells; also expressed by all thymocytes.
Target Information
CD2 (LFA-2) is a monomeric surface antigen (MW range 45–58 kDa) expressed on human T-lymphocytes and some NK cells, but not on B lymphocytes. It is one of the earliest T-cell markers, found on more than 95% of thymocytes.
CD2 interacts with CD58 to stabilize adhesion between T cells and antigen-presenting or target cells. T-cell activation increases CD2 expression and mobility, enhancing cell contact and adhesion.
CD2 deficiency is associated with reduced intestinal inflammation and certain immune deficiencies. Diseases related to CD2 dysfunction include squamous cell carcinoma and thymus-related immunodeficiency.
