This antibody has specificity for:

  • H5N1 (A/Anhui/1/2005) HA
  • H5N1 (A/bar-headed goose/Qinghai/14/2008) HA

Target Information

Influenza A virus is a major public health threat, responsible for over 30,000 deaths annually in the USA. In early 2009, a novel swine-origin influenza A (H1N1) virus emerged in Mexico and the United States, spreading globally and leading to a pandemic declaration by the WHO on June 11, 2009.

Influenza A virus possesses sixteen possible Hemagglutinin (HA) surface proteins and nine possible Neuraminidase (NA) surface proteins:

  • HA facilitates viral attachment.
  • NA enables viral release.

These proteins elicit immune responses that can prevent infection or reduce viral replication. The 2009 H1N1 strain contained a unique genetic combination of human, swine, and avian influenza genes, with additional H3N2 genes from Eurasian pigs of recent human origin. Due to its distinct antigenic properties, human immunity against this strain was limited, though older age groups showed partial protection.
