Product Specific Information

This product is preservative-free. It is recommended to add sodium azide to avoid contamination (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%).

Recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies are produced using in vitro expression systems. The expression systems are developed by cloning specific antibody DNA sequences from immunoreactive rabbits. Individual clones are screened to select the best candidates for production.

Advantages of recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies:

  • Better specificity and sensitivity
  • Lot-to-lot consistency
  • Animal origin-free formulation
  • Broader immunoreactivity due to larger rabbit immune repertoire

This antibody has specificity for H5N1 (A/Anhui/1/2005) HA and H5N1 (A/Anhui/1/2005) HA2 sub-unit.

Target Information

Influenza A virus is a major public health threat, killing more than 30,000 people per year in the USA.
In early 2009, a novel swine-origin influenza A (H1N1) virus was identified in specimens obtained from patients in Mexico and the United States. The virus spread quickly around the world, and on June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization declared it a pandemic.

Influenza A virus has:

  • 16 possible Hemagglutinin (HA) surface proteins
  • 9 possible Neuraminidase (NA) surface proteins

The Hemagglutinin protein facilitates viral attachment, while Neuraminidase is involved in viral release. These proteins elicit immune responses that prevent infection or reduce viral replication.

The genetic make-up of the 2009 swine flu H1N1 strain combines a triple assortment (human, swine, avian influenza) with two new pig H3N2 virus genes from Eurasia. The distinct antigenic properties of this virus compared with seasonal influenza A (H1N1) suggest limited human immunity, although older age groups may have partial protection.
