Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and epithelial layer maintenance. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin, linking adhesion complexes to the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also associates with signaling pathways including Wnt/Wingless, tyrosine kinases, and phosphatases, influencing morphogenesis and tumorigenesis. It is expressed in various hair follicle cells and has pathological roles in pilomatrixoma, medulloblastoma, colorectal and ovarian cancers, and other solid tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin coactivates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting expression of cyclin D and c-myc, key regulators of cell proliferation.
