Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and signaling. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin, linking adhesion complexes to the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also associates with adenomatous polyposis coli protein and microtubules, participating in Wnt/Wingless and other signaling pathways that regulate morphogenesis and cell proliferation. Dysregulation of beta-catenin is implicated in various cancers, including colorectal, ovarian, breast, and skin tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting expression of genes such as cyclin D and c-myc.
