Target Information
CD13 (ANPEP) is a 150–170 kDa type II transmembrane zinc-binding ectopeptidase expressed on various cell types.
It functions as a metalloprotease that removes neutral amino acids from small peptides, thereby activating or inactivating bioactive peptides.
CD13 also plays roles in:
- Extracellular matrix degradation
- Antigen processing and signal transduction
- Inflammatory responses
- Regulation of intercellular contact, cell motility, and vascularization
CD13 is expressed by granulocytes, monocytes, and myeloid leukemia cells.
It contributes to the protection of leukemic cells against apoptosis and is associated with poor prognosis in carcinomas.
Additionally, CD13 functions as an aminopeptidase enzyme and serves as an alpha receptor for coronavirus.
