Target Information

Caspase 14 encodes a member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family, which plays a central role in the execution phase of apoptosis. Caspases exist as inactive proenzymes that undergo proteolytic processing at conserved aspartic residues to produce active enzyme subunits.
Caspase-14 is processed and activated by caspase-8 and -10 in vitro, and by anti-Fas agonist antibody or TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand in vivo. Its expression and processing are associated with keratinocyte terminal differentiation, essential for skin barrier formation.
Diseases associated with CASP14 include Ichthyosis, Congenital, Autosomal Recessive 12 and Autosomal Recessive Congenital Ichthyosis.
