Target Information
Component of the Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein PRC1 complex, required to maintain transcriptional repression of genes such as Hox during development.
PRC1 complex acts through chromatin remodeling and histone modification, mediating monoubiquitination of histone H2A at Lys-119, resulting in heritable changes in chromatin expressibility.
Within PRC1, BMI-1 is necessary to stimulate the E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase activity of RNF2/RING2.
