Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC proteins transport various molecules across extra- and intra-cellular membranes and are divided into seven subfamilies: ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, and White.
This full transporter is a member of the MRP subfamily involved in multi-drug resistance. It functions as a multispecific organic anion transporter, handling substrates such as oxidized glutathione, cysteinyl leukotrienes, and activated aflatoxin B1. It also transports glucuronides and sulfate conjugates of steroid hormones and bile salts.
Alternative splicing by exon deletion results in several splice variants, all maintaining the original open reading frame.
