Target Information

Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are key components of potassium currents in the heart and central nervous system.
In the heart, Kv4 channels contribute to the repolarization phase of the action potential, while in the brain they prevent reverse-propagation of action potentials.
KChIPs (Kv channel interacting proteins) are calcium-binding proteins that associate with Kv4 channels and modulate their function.
Known KChIPs include:

• KChIP1: expressed in the brain
• KChIP2: expressed in brain, heart, and lung; three isoforms (a, b, c)
• KChIP3: also known as calsenilin or DREAM, expressed in brain and testis
