Target Information
TUBB1 encodes a member of the beta-tubulin protein family. Beta-tubulins, together with alpha-tubulins, form microtubules through heterodimerization. This protein is specifically expressed in platelets and megakaryocytes and may play a role in proplatelet production and platelet release. Mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal dominant macrothrombocytopenia. Two pseudogenes of TUBB1 are found on chromosome Y.
