  • Catalog No. 701339 was successfully used to detect the ubiquitination of GLUT1 in transfected HeLa cells.

Target Information

Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein that plays a key role in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor protein consisting of either polyubiquitin chains or a single ubiquitin fused to an unrelated protein.
The gene encodes a fusion protein with ubiquitin at the N-terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C-terminus. Upon expression, post-translational processing generates free ubiquitin monomers and ribosomal protein S27a.
Ribosomal protein S27a is part of the 40S ribosomal subunit, contains C4-type zinc finger domains, and is located in the cytoplasm.
Pseudogenes derived from this gene exist in the genome. Similar fusion mechanisms occur with ribosomal proteins L40 and S30, which are synthesized with ubiquitin or ubiquitin-like proteins.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same proteins have been identified.
