Target Information
POT1 is a component of the telomerase ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complex essential for chromosome end replication. It is part of the double-stranded telomeric DNA-binding TRF1 complex, which regulates telomere length by cis-inhibition of telomerase. POT1 also binds single-stranded telomeric DNA, acting as a downstream effector of the TRF1 complex and transmitting information about telomere maintenance and length. It binds specifically to the telomeric single-stranded 5′-TTAGGG-3′ repeats and the minimal 5′-TAGGGTTAG-3′ sequence. Its activity depends on TERT but does not increase TERT activity.
