This antibody is predicted to react with chicken, chimpanzee, invertebrates, mammals, porcine, xenopus, and zebrafish samples based on sequence homology.

Target Information

The protein encoded by SMAD1/SMAD5/SMAD8/SMAD9 belongs to the SMAD family, similar to the Drosophila gene mothers against decapentaplegic (Mad) and the C. elegans gene Sma.
SMAD proteins act as signal transducers and transcriptional modulators mediating multiple signaling pathways.
This protein mediates bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling, which regulates cell growth, apoptosis, morphogenesis, development, and immune responses.
Upon BMP ligand binding, the protein is phosphorylated and activated by BMP receptor kinase, forming a complex with SMAD4 that regulates transcription.
It is also a target for SMAD-specific E3 ubiquitin ligases (SMURF1, SMURF2) and undergoes ubiquitination and proteasome-mediated degradation.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
