• In direct ELISAs and Western blots, approximately 30% cross-reactivity with recombinant human (rh) Cystatin SA is observed, 15% with rhCystatin S, 5% with rhCystatin C, and less than 1% with rhCystatin A, B, E/M, and F.
• Reconstitute at 0.2 mg/mL in sterile PBS.

Target Information

The cystatin superfamily is a well-established family of cysteine protease inhibitors.

• Type 1 cystatins (A and B): mainly intracellular
• Type 2 cystatins (C, D, E/M, F, G, S, SN, SA): extracellular
• Type 3 cystatins (kininogens): intravascular proteins

All true cystatins inhibit cysteine peptidases of the papain family and some inhibit legumain family enzymes.
Cystatin SA, S, and SN are found primarily in saliva; S and SN are also expressed in tears, urine, and seminal fluid.
Cystatin C is expressed in brain, thymus, ovary, epididymis, and vas deferens.
Cystatin D protects against proteinases in the oral cavity, while Cystatin E/M and F regulate cathepsin inhibition.
Fetuins influence osteogenesis, insulin receptor regulation, and systemic inflammation response.
Kininogen HC and LC inhibit thrombin- and plasmin-induced thrombocyte aggregation.
