Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, which regulates programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, reversing their anti-apoptotic activity. Its proapoptotic function is modulated by phosphorylation, involving kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing of the BAD gene results in two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
