- Despite its predicted molecular weight, BANF1 often migrates at a higher molecular weight in SDS-PAGE.
- A suggested positive control is mouse kidney tissue lysate.

Target Information
Barrier-to-autointegration factor 1 (BANF1) is a conserved chromatin protein that non-specifically binds double-stranded DNA.
BANF1 interacts with nuclear proteins such as LAP2, emerin, and MAN1.
It is a host cell component of retroviral pre-integration complexes (PICs), including that of HIV, and binds to p55 Gag and its cleaved product matrix.
BANF1 may be present at low levels in incoming virions, contributing to HIV-1 PIC assembly or activity through direct binding to matrix and DNA.
