Mouse anti-Cat CD8 alpha/beta antibody, clone vpg9, recognizes the feline homolog of human CD8.
Clone vpg9 specifically binds to an epitope associated with the alpha/beta complex of the CD8 heterodimer (Shimojima et al., 1998).
Target Information
Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin receptor family involved in T cell signal transduction, differentiation, and activation.
CD8 is expressed mainly on T cells as a disulfide-linked heterodimer (CD8α/CD8β) functioning as a co-receptor with TCR for MHC-I molecules.
It is also found on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells as CD8α homodimers.
Binding to MHC-I/peptide complexes recruits Lck kinase, promoting cytokine production, motility, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation.
Activated CTLs are crucial for pathogen and tumor cell clearance. Differentiation of naive CD8+ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
