Mouse anti-Horse CD8 antibody, clone CVS21, recognizes the equine homolog of human CD8. Equine CD8 is expressed by a subset of T lymphocytes.
Target Information
Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin family involved in T cell signal transduction, differentiation, and activation.
CD8 is predominantly expressed on T cells as a disulfide-linked heterodimer (CD8α and CD8β) and functions as a co-receptor with the T cell receptor (TCR) for MHC class I molecules.
It is also found on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells as CD8α homodimers.
Engagement of CD8 with MHC-I/peptide complexes on antigen-presenting cells recruits Lck kinase, leading to cytokine production, motility, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation.
Activated CTLs are essential for pathogen and tumor cell clearance. Differentiation of naive CD8+ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
