Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a key component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Defects in this checkpoint contribute to genetic instability and cancer progression. Human cells express two related checkpoint kinases, hBUBR1 and hBUB1, derived from the BUB1 gene. Both monitor kinetochore–microtubule interactions during mitosis. hBUBR1 prevents premature anaphase entry and has been detected in various human cancers. It interacts with BCSG1, which may promote breast cancer progression by impairing BUBR1 function.
