MA1-43021 was derived from human factor XI.
Target Information
This gene encodes coagulation factor XI, a key component of the blood coagulation cascade.
Factor XI exists in plasma as a zymogen and is unique among plasma coagulation enzymes because it forms a homodimer of two identical polypeptide chains linked by disulfide bonds.
Upon activation by factor XIIa, internal peptide bonds are cleaved, producing activated factor XIa, a serine protease composed of two heavy and two light chains held together by disulfide bonds.
Activated factor XIa triggers the middle phase of the intrinsic pathway of blood coagulation by activating factor IX.
Defects in this factor can lead to Rosenthal syndrome, a blood coagulation abnormality.
