Target Information
ZFPM1 is a transcription regulator that plays an essential role in erythroid and megakaryocytic cell differentiation.
It acts as an essential cofactor forming a heterodimer with GATA family transcription factors (GATA1, GATA2, GATA3).
These heterodimers can activate or repress transcriptional activity depending on the cellular and promoter context.
The heterodimer is required for activation of genes such as NFE2, ITGA2B, alpha- and beta-globin, and repression of KLF1.
ZFPM1 may also play roles in gonadal gene regulation and cardiac development in conjunction with ZFPM2/FOG2.
