Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily (tetraspanin family). These are cell-surface proteins characterized by four hydrophobic domains and are involved in signal transduction events regulating cell development, activation, growth, and motility. The encoded protein is a cell surface glycoprotein that complexes with integrins and other tetraspanins, participating in cell adhesion and integrin trafficking or function. It enhances cell motility, invasion, and metastasis of cancer cells. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described.
