Target Information
BCL-XL is a member of the BCL-2 protein family, which forms hetero- or homodimers and acts as anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators involved in various cellular activities.
Located at the outer mitochondrial membrane, BCL-XL regulates VDAC channel opening, mitochondrial membrane potential, reactive oxygen species production, and cytochrome C release — all key factors in apoptosis.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encode distinct isoforms: the longer isoform acts as an apoptotic inhibitor, while the shorter form acts as an apoptotic activator.
