Target Information
The FADD protein is an adaptor molecule that interacts with various cell surface receptors and mediates apoptotic signaling. Through its C-terminal death domain, FADD can be recruited by TNFRSF6/Fas-receptor, TNFRSF25, and TNFSF10/TRAIL-receptor, participating in death signaling initiated by these receptors. Interaction with receptors unmasks its N-terminal effector domain, enabling recruitment of caspase-8 and activation of the cysteine protease cascade. Knockout studies in mice indicate its importance in early T cell development.
