Target Information
Constant region of immunoglobulin heavy chains. Immunoglobulins (antibodies) are glycoproteins produced by B lymphocytes. Membrane-bound immunoglobulins act as antigen receptors, triggering clonal expansion and differentiation into plasma cells that secrete antibodies. Secreted immunoglobulins mediate antigen elimination. Each immunoglobulin has two antigen-binding sites formed by variable domains of heavy and light chains. These domains undergo V-(D)-J rearrangement and somatic hypermutation, enabling affinity maturation. IgA is the major immunoglobulin class in body secretions. [UniProt]
