Target Information
Constant region of immunoglobulin heavy chains. Immunoglobulins (antibodies) are membrane-bound or secreted glycoproteins produced by B lymphocytes.
In humoral immunity, membrane-bound immunoglobulins act as receptors that trigger clonal expansion and differentiation of B cells into plasma cells upon antigen binding.
Secreted immunoglobulins mediate antigen elimination. The antigen-binding site is composed of variable domains from one heavy and one light chain, providing high affinity and specificity.
Variable domains are assembled through V-(D)-J rearrangement and somatic hypermutation, enabling affinity maturation.
IgA (alpha chain) is the predominant immunoglobulin class in body secretions.
