Target Information
In vertebrates, homeobox genes are organized into clusters (A, B, C, and D) on four separate chromosomes. Their expression is spatially and temporally regulated during embryonic development.
HOXA1, part of the A cluster on chromosome 7, encodes a DNA-binding transcription factor involved in gene regulation, morphogenesis, and differentiation. It plays a role in positioning hindbrain segments along the anterior-posterior axis during development.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified, with only one containing the homeodomain region.
