Target Information

The NCF4 protein is a cytosolic regulatory component of the superoxide-producing phagocyte NADPH-oxidase, an enzyme system essential for host defense. It is primarily expressed in myeloid lineage cells and interacts with NCF2 (p67-phox) and NCF1 (p47-phox) to form a complex that activates flavocytochrome b upon cell stimulation. The PX domain binds phospholipid products of PI(3) kinase, implicating it in PI(3) kinase-mediated signaling. Phosphorylation of NCF4 negatively regulates enzyme activity. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
