Target Information
AKT, also known as protein kinase B (PKB) or RAS-alpha, is a ubiquitous serine/threonine kinase involved in diverse biological responses such as metabolism regulation, cell survival, and growth through phosphorylation of multiple substrates. Activated by insulin, PI3K, IGF1, and other growth factors, AKT promotes cell survival by inhibiting apoptosis via phosphorylation and inactivation of targets including forkhead transcription factors and caspase-9. The AKT pathway is a major target for cancer drug discovery.
