Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of ULK1 only when phosphorylated at Ser555 of mouse ULK1 or Ser556 of human ULK1.

Target Information

ULK1 is a serine/threonine protein kinase that plays a critical role during the initial stages of autophagy, a vital response to nutrient starvation. The conserved C-terminal domain (CTD) of ULK1 controls its regulatory function and localization. Knockdown of ULK1 inhibits the autophagic response and rapamycin-induced autophagy, consistent with its role downstream of mTOR. ULK1 forms a complex with FIP200 and ATG13, essential for starvation-induced autophagy. Both FIP200 and ATG13 are required for correct localization of ULK1 to the pre-autophagosome and for ULK1 protein stability. ULK1 is phosphorylated by the mTOR pathway in a nutrient starvation-regulated manner.
