Claudin 1–8 단백질은 tight junction과 관련된 막관통 단백질 패밀리로, 세포 간 접착 부위에서 이온 및 물 분자의 누출을 방지하는 역할을 합니다. 이들은 주로 상피세포 시트의 내강면에 풍부하게 존재하며, 세포 극성을 유지하는 데 중요합니다. 조직마다 Claudin 조성이 다르며, 유방암, 난소암, 간세포암, 요로계 종양, 전립선암, 폐암, 두경부암, 갑상선암 등 다양한 암종에서 발현 차이가 보고되었습니다. 또한, 대체 스플라이싱에 의해 다양한 isoform이 존재합니다.
