Product Specific Information

The monoclonal antibody 1H9 recognizes both mouse and human Pax5. Pax5, also known as BSAP (B cell specific activator protein), is a member of the paired box (pax) family of transcription factors. It is the only member expressed in hematopoietic cells.

During embryogenesis, Pax5 is transiently expressed in the brain of mice and in the mesencephalon and spinal cord of humans. Its expression is upregulated early in B cell development and maintained through most stages. Suppression of Pax5 is essential for Blimp-1 expression and plasma cell differentiation.

In the spleen, Pax5 expression is higher in marginal zone B cells (B220⁺ CD21^high CD23^low) than in other B cells. Pax5 also influences VH-DJH recombination and the expression of various B and non-B cell proteins. Pax5 expression is correlated with many neoplasms, including DLBCL, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and B-cell ALL. Various translocations (elastin, IGH, ETV6, FOXP1, EVI3) have been identified.

Target Information

PAX5 is a transcription factor of the paired box (PAX) family, crucial in early development. It acts as a B-cell lineage-specific activator protein (BSAP), expressed in early but not late stages of B-cell differentiation. Expression is also detected in developing CNS and testis, suggesting a role in neural development and spermatogenesis. Mutations in PAX5 are associated with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
