Target Information
Inward rectifier potassium channels allow potassium to flow more easily into the cell than out of it. Their voltage dependence is regulated by extracellular potassium concentration; as external potassium increases, the channel opening shifts to more positive voltages. Inward rectification is mainly due to blockage of outward current by internal magnesium.
KCNJ13 exhibits very low single channel conductance, low sensitivity to external barium and cesium block, and no dependence of inward rectification on internal magnesium.
