Target Information
The Lipase family is a robust genetic superfamily that includes esterases and thioesterases. Members are related by tertiary structure rather than primary amino acid sequence. Hepatic Lipase (HL or LIPC) plays a key role in balancing lipoprotein composition and transport in human plasma. Deficiencies in Hepatic Lipase can lead to abnormal lipoprotein levels and are associated with coronary artery disease (CAD). It is regulated by thyroid hormones and functions both as a triglyceride hydrolase and as a ligand/bridging factor for receptor-mediated lipoprotein uptake. Hepatic Lipase localizes to endothelial surfaces of extrahepatic tissues.
