Product Specific Information

The Btjce monoclonal antibody reacts with the transcription factor Sox2, a member of the SOX (sex determining region Y-related HMG Box) family of proteins. Sox2 is essential for regulating genes involved in normal mammalian embryogenesis and maintaining pluripotency in embryonic stem (ES) cells.

Sox2 expression is tightly regulated; small changes can trigger differentiation into multiple cell types. It is also critical for early neurogenesis, where it helps maintain neural stem cells and suppress differentiation. Sox2, in combination with other stem cell markers, is useful for characterizing stem cell populations. Aberrant expression has been associated with several cancers including colorectal and breast cancer.

Applications Reported:
This antibody is suitable for intracellular staining and flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry (FFPE), immunocytochemistry, western blot, and ELISA. Fluorochrome-conjugated Btjce is recommended for intracellular flow cytometry.

Applications Tested:

• Tested on FFPE human testes at ≤5 µg/mL with both high and low pH antigen retrieval.
• Tested on fixed/permeabilized iPS cells at ≤5 µg/mL.
• Recommended to titrate for optimal performance.

Target Information

SOX2 is an intronless gene encoding a transcription factor of the SOX family involved in embryonic development and cell fate determination. It is critical for stem-cell maintenance in the central nervous system and regulates gene expression in the stomach. The SOX2 gene lies within an intron of the SOX2 overlapping transcript (SOX2OT) gene. SOX2 protein may act as a transcriptional activator in complex with other proteins. Mutations in SOX2 are linked to bilateral anophthalmia, optic nerve hypoplasia, and syndromic microphthalmia.
