Target Information
The muscarinic cholinergic receptors belong to the G protein-coupled receptor family. Their functional diversity is defined by acetylcholine binding and includes cellular responses such as adenylate cyclase inhibition, phosphoinositide degradation, and potassium channel mediation. Muscarinic receptors influence many acetylcholine-mediated effects in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. The muscarinic cholinergic receptor 3 (CHRM3) controls smooth muscle contraction and its stimulation causes glandular secretion.
