Target Information
Protein arginine N-methyltransferase 6 (PRMT6) is a type I PRMT enzyme capable of forming both ω-N monomethylarginine and asymmetric dimethylarginine derivatives on recombinant glycine- and arginine-rich substrates.
It acts as a transcriptional coactivator for several steroid hormone receptors, including ESR1, ESR2, PGR, and NR3C1.
PRMT6 promotes fasting-induced transcriptional activation of the gluconeogenic program through methylation of the CRTC2 transcription coactivator.
It may also contribute to innate immunity against HIV-1 by methylating and impairing the function of viral proteins such as Tat, Rev, and Nucleocapsid protein p7.
