Target Information
Specificity of vesicular transport is regulated by interactions among synaptobrevin/VAMP, syntaxin, and SNAP25, forming a complex that mediates membrane fusion. SNAP23, a homolog of SNAP25, is expressed ubiquitously and binds multiple syntaxins and synaptobrevins/VAMPs. It is a key component of the high-affinity receptor for membrane fusion machinery and regulates transport vesicle docking and fusion. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
